Teachers may enroll representing their students for the three new projects of Connecting Classrooms, which start enrollment in 15th of August and projects’ execution will begin in September 2012 through the plataform Schools Online. The Connecting Classrooms Program, a global project of British Council, begins a new phase. Created by British Council and the government of Britain, Connecting Classrooms stimulates the exchange of experiences and knowledge between students of all over the world through a system of partnership between schools. O objetivo é apoiar os jovens no aprendizado sobre assuntos globais para torná-los cidadãos responsáveis, aptos a trabalharem na economia mundial.

The activities of Connecting Classrooms are based in themes related to local culture and society, and work with digital tools, such as the organization of a daily blog. All the interactivity happens in the platform Schools Online. The language adopted to share the activities is English, but the projects may be developed in the classroom with another language as well. The projects are aimed at students of age 6 to 10 years old, 11 to 14 years old and 15 to 18 years old.

Today, participate on the program schools of 51 countries, among them Brazil, Germany, China, Spain, India, Lebanon, Morroco, Nigeria, Portugal and Switzerland.

The enrollment for the next phase of actitivites will be open from the 15th of August, in the Brazil Project Spaces in the platform Schools Online: http://schoolsonline.britishcouncil.org/brazil-projects.

To enroll, teachers must register their school and choose the themes which they plan to work:

Investigating Natural Phenomena – Through research, participating teacher will identify with their students the phenomena of nature more recurring in your country. Together they will report to other participants how they occur and evidentiate the negative impact of their interferences in nature.

Know to preserve: Endangered species – The research about endangered animals will be the theme of this project. The students will select 5 endangered species of their country or region, will study about them and create marketing campaigns about their preservation. The teachers will guide their students in the creation of materials to understand the issue of preservation within their school community. Afterwards, they will exchange these materials in the Exchange Area online with teachers and students of other countries which will be discussing the same theme, implicating in broadening the knowledge of students of the importance of this theme.

Folk tales – The goal of this project is to create and present slides with a regional folk tale. The students will research and choose their favorite folk tale, and afterwards, write it, illustrate it and share it. The tales will be exchanged with the world, broadening the students’ repertoire by sharing with other cultures.

Other than the projects, British Council offers pedagogical support to participating schools and coordinates the work done by the teachers with the support of Instituto Crescer.

“The Connecting Classrooms Program is an unique initiative of British Council which uses digital resources to create true schools without borders. Through the projects, students will have the opportunity to explore and know a different world without leaving the classroom. Above all, the Program connects teachers and invites them to share their experiences and learn with their colleagues of the UK and other countries”, declares Claudio Anjos, Director of Education and Exams of British Council.
